Tornado is proud to offer the gearmotors of our sister company ASI Drives, a manufacturer of custom engineered gear drives, based in Montgomeryville (USA). ASI designs, engineers and assembles all gear drives and has earned a reputation for problem solving and delivery of maximum performance and efficiency in compact packages.
ASI wheel drives are versatile, efficient, and ideal for a variety of applications from medical mobility to material handling. ASI offers a diverse line of single wheel drives ranging from the right angle worm drive, LIGHTNING 200, to our heavy duty wheel drive, Thunder 1500.
Storm 300
The STORM 300 is a new addition in ASI’s wheel drive portfolio. Designed for either indoor or outdoor mobile robotic applications – such as autonomous surveying, agricultural robotics, or anywhere uneven terrain and uncontrolled conditions are expected – its robust, compact design is ready for IP67 environments, and includes a 24V BLDC motor, a planetary 20:1 ratio, and an optional electromagnetic power-off brake (not shown). A pair of redundant high-resolution encoders allows the Storm 300 to integrate into a larger robotic system that can meet ISO PLd industrial safety rating requirements, and at only 5,7 pounds and 135 mm in diameter at its widest point, it is a highly space efficient design with high torque density.
Storm 400
The STORM 400 is a medium duty brushless wheel drive used in autonomous mobile applications. The single stage design fully incorporates the brushless motor into the gearbox housing making a compact, powerful, and durable drive system. It is optimized for use as a wheel drive with oversize axle bearings and options available for encoders on the axle and motor shafts. Various parking brake options are also offered. We can also supply this drive with a wheel.
Storm 500
The STORM 500 is a medium duty wheel drive. The dual stage medium duty wheel drive comes with ball bearings on the output shafts. The rugged die-cast housing design and the completely sealed drive system makes it suited for outdoor use. It provides the maximum torque density at a low noise output, thanks to helical gearing and close tolerance parts.
Thunder 1500
The THUNDER 1500 is a heavy duty dual stage helical wheel drive. It is ideal for applications where a high amount of weight needs to be moved. The dual stage helical wheel drive has a high-capacity output shaft and is ideal for applications with large wheels.
Cyclone 150
The CYCLONE 150 is a new addition in ASI’s wheel drive portfolio. Designed for indoor mobile robot applications, such as tunnel-style AGVs, it includes a 6″ (~150 mm) drive wheel with a PMDC or BLDC motor with a shaft-mounted rotary encoder, and optional electromagnetic power-off brake. The traction drive includes an incremental rotary encoder, and it has an integrated steering motor that rotates the assembly around a fixed slew gear, and it has a towing capacity of over 1700 pounds. A brushless steer motor with an integrated encoder and control electronics is also available.
Cyclone 700
The CYCLONE 700 is a heavy duty wheel drive ideal for use in tuggers, AGVs or AGCs. It comes with a custom-designed brushless DC motor. The heavy duty wheel drive is designed for use with a separate steer motor assembly. It is used in applications where weight and durability are critical.
Lightning 200
The LIGHTNING 200 is our most versatile right angle worm drive. It is a high-efficiency drive utilizing a precision worm and worm wheel with a spur gear output pass. This easy-to-install right angle worm drive includes an optional electromagnetic brake and cog release.
Gemini 500
The GEMINI 500 is designed to replace a single motor transaxle system with a dual motor wheel drive system. In this system one motor drives each wheel independently. This allows for autonomous operation in a mobile application or it allows for differential control in a manual operation. Various configurations are available to replace different transaxles. Motors, Encoders, brakes, and ratio options are available.
