Platform Lift
A special type of stair lift
A platform lift is a special type of stair lift designed to overcome stairs and small height differences. These lifts are particularly suitable for wheelchairs and walkers. Unlike conventional stair lifts equipped with a seat, they eliminate the need for the user to transfer or change positions. Users remain comfortably in place and can move barrier-free, even with limited mobility.
Platform lifts generally have a high load capacity of up to 300 lbs. As with stair lifts, the rail system (1- or 2-rail system) is installed along the stairs. These rails are custom-designed for each application. Often, platform lifts also move vertically, functioning like a small elevator.
The platform lift is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Users can access the lift platform via a small ramp or at ground level. The platform complies with all safety standards and is operated via remote control.
Various drive systems are used for platform lifts, including classic rack-and-pinion drives. A rack-and-pinion drive consists of a drive pinion, a rack, and an electric motor. The rack-and-pinion drive functions much like a rack railway: the electric motor drives the gear along the rack to provide motion.
